Thank Your Dad For The Next Big Thing in Street Style: Dad Hats

Street fashion is all about looking hip, uniquely stylish, edgy and most of all, youthful, right? And that’s precisely why plain old T-shirts and bowling shirts are often looked over – because they are normally worn by our dads and uncles, who, well, are not as “youthful” as we see them.

But the real challenge is to keep it stylish no matter what we have. After all, we have been learning to make the most out of what we have right?
So whether it is a plain T-shirt or a bowling shirt, we need to make them look as hip and fun as we want them to be (check out our blog on how to style bowling shirts here).

Now there is something else we can borrow from our dads. And this time, we are not improvising it. We are just going to copy his style and call it a day.

It’s dad hats people. And they are pretty much everywhere now. Denim dad hat is now available at Vicemode.com.

For those of you who are a little confused here, let me give you the run-down on everything you need to know about #DadHats.

What are they?

So dad hats or dad caps, as they are called are basically baseball caps of sorts, except that they are not as fitted or flat brimmed. They are not regular snap back types either. They are mostly made of cotton or canvas and have a slightly curved brim rather than a flat brim. And of course, as more of a street style staple, they run a little over-sized in style.
About their surface ornamentation, well, sometimes they come with less-than-perfect embroidery and patchwork.

What’s their story?

Well, it kind of started with the normcore. You know, the people who always wear the basics from Gap and Old Navy. They also almost gave us the “dad jeans” trend but thankfully we got over that one.
Then it just went in to a whole round of evolution starting from the basic baseball cap to loose fitting hip-hop inspired hats or caps.

I think it is high time that we stopped labelling dads and uncles as uncool now, don’t you think?

Now let’s see where we can get some inspiration from.

Barack Obama

I think we are getting the biggest “yes” on this trend here. Who cares if he’s a dad, he’s definitely the coolest!
