Streetwear And High Fashion: A Passing Fad Or A Lasting Affair?
Chic streetwear style inspired details and other streetwear trends have been showing up on the coveted runways of Paris, Milan and New York for quite some time now. And they are increasingly becoming a part of the annual fashion weeks for both men and women every year.
What does that indicate?
It simply means that high fashion brands like Dior, Givenchy and Chanel have started to embrace the streetwear flock and what’s more, luxury streetwear hybrids like Pigalle have already begun to showcase streetwear aesthetics to the Parisian and Italian crowd.
That’s right. Pigalle just staged a show at the gilded Palais Garnier in Paris last month. And another brand Hood By Air by Shayne Oliver, also staged a show at the famous traditional Florentine trade show Pitti Uomo.
So we see this major crossover happening and streetwear as we know it is starting to lose its underground status. Now that could mean a great thing in the world of fashion, because hey, at the end of the day we’re getting a new style and everyone’s happy.
But is this hybrid trend going to last? Or will the combination be just another passing trend?
Well, for most designers this phenomenon is seen as a more serious and solid shift in the way people perceive fashion in the way people are dressing. Streetwear as such, as all of us know is more of a cultural state of mind rather than a trend and in that sense, it is definitely here to stay.
Even in regular offices and in the business world, the role of complete formal wear is slowly decreasing. People are more inclined towards being comfortable and in wearing what they like. And streetwear is of course what they turn to. That’s what makes streetwear so real and relateable.
And that’s what’s going to make streetwear clothing evergreen.
For the same reason, high fashion and streetwear also might just be a love affair that is destined to last.
Although, there are some designers that feel the two shouldn’t be mixed too, because they represent completely different kinds of fashion.
Anyway, let’s all bask in the glory of the gorgeous phenomenon that is happening at the moment, streetwear and high fashion. Here are a few shots from the hybrid shows that many countries around the world got to witness.
