The Scrunchie – A Possible New Street Style Staple?
Remember the 90’s smash hit that topped all the charts across the world sung by the iconic “Spice Girls” – Wannabe?
Wow! I can still remember grooving to that number while on my way to high school. It was like the epitome of girl power back then. And the lyrics! I’m sure every teenage girl would still be able to relate to that song.
Even the music video was fun and hip. It literally shouts “pop” of the 90’s, doesn’t it?
The Spice Girls were really something. Even now, their influence in fashion and style is huge! But we’ll take a detailed look into that a little later though.
Today, we’re going to talk about one particular fashion trend that used to be a signature for the Spice Girls and is now yet again becoming a fashion staple.
Can you believe that?
Let’s take a walk down memory lane and see how stylish they were.
They look pretty cool don’t they?
That’s probably why they’re making a strong comeback now. When some of the most influential celebrities in street style start sporting the trend, we know it’s official.
Here’s Bella Hadid labeling the scrunchie as a street style staple. She has always been known to bring back the 90’s trends and this one just had to be mentioned.
Check out her athleisure ensemble as well. Those training pants, that sports bra and those rock solid abs. They all give a “spice girl” vibe actually.
This was from the appearance she made for Nike in L.A at The Grove. The supermodel decided to wear a neat half-up tie back ponytail secured in place with a White scrunchie. And just how it’s a rule to put your ponies sky high, Bella Hadid also has hers very high.
Before Bella wore it, there’s someone else who made a statement with a scrunchie.
And it’s none other than Lily-Rose Depp. She decided to use the scrunchie in a different way though.
Lily-Rose Depp here is seen on her way back to Los Angeles wearing a messy bun in a White scrunchie. Being the Chanel muse and all, she could possibly have made a solid statement in that scrunchie in the world of street fashion.
One advantage that is obvious from both looks is how this accessory helps to slick back our hair neatly and tightly. Especially during summer, when our hair can get all crazy with the sweat and the fly-aways, this piece of elastic can tuck in all the gym-hair and clean up our look.
Now the question is, is it the scrunchie that is back or is it just the White scrunchie?
