Androgynous Street Style Is Here And It Is About Time!
There was a time in fashion when our society was unbelievably narrow-minded in terms of the clothing men and women wore. But thankfully now, we are past all that. Today, we have a whole new trend catching up. A trend that is totally centered on one concept that was considered taboo during earlier times.
Coco Chanel has always been known for her revolutionary styles in clothing which liberated women from their oppressive corset dresses of the past. While talking about feminism, she strongly defended the idea that a person should be able to express themselves and be identified by the way they feel and not based on how their gender tells them to feel.
Now you know what I’m talking about.
Androgyny or androgynous clothing.
That’s right. It’s a fast evolving trend nowadays, especially in street fashion and for a good reason. I think it’s about time that we as human beings stop stereotyping people based on their gender. And it’s not just me feeling this way.
A lot of celebrities too have decided that it’s time to break the perceptions and have caught on with the androgynous trend.
And without a doubt, everyone is totally rocking it!
Before we get in to our top 5 favorite celebs that set examples on how to do right, let’s take a brief look into what androgynous fashion or androgynous street style is.
What exactly is androgynous fashion?
Androgyny is mainly a style that aims to avoid gender stereotypes. An androgynous person dresses himself or herself up to look neither like a typical boy or girl. For example, as per androgynous dressing, a guy doesn’t always wear clothes that are normally considered to be a part of the male wardrobe and a girl too doesn’t have to wear clothes that are normally seen as typical female clothing.
Now there is no single piece of bottom wear online that can be labelled as androgynous, but it all depends on how it is worn. Normally, loose fitting garments, geometric prints, kilts, hoodies and unusual makeup is used in androgynous fashion.
Now that we know what it is, let’s see who our winners are in this trend:
